Applying CSDM guidelines to your product — product views

ServiceNow products expect that CMDB data is organized according to CSDM guidelines and they benefit from that organization.

The topics in the next section identify the specific CMDB tables that the products update and obtain data from. The topics provide practical instructions for implementing the CSDM guidelines.

  • Brief overview of the function and benefits of the product.
  • CMDB tables managed by the product.
  • CMDB tables used by the product.
  • Mention of other ServiceNow products that add value to the product.
  • Mention of other ServiceNow products that benefit from the product.
  • Use case and examples.

The topics do not address the following information:

  • Implementing the ServiceNow product.
  • Configuring systems that are not included in the base system. Such systems might be referred to in this product view, but they are out-of-scope.
  • Using other ServiceNow products, such as IT Service Management (ITSM), Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM), and IT Operations Management (ITOM).

Note: A CSDM use case might have one or more data types. Other ServiceNow products may also manage those data types. The use cases don't describe all possible product dependencies.
