Request a bulk exception

Use the bulk edit option to request an exception for multiple vulnerable items (VITs) instead of manually selecting each item.

Before you begin

Role required: sn_vul.vulnerability_analyst

About this task

When multiple VITs are selected, a remediation task (VUL) is formed with these items. See Edit vulnerable items in bulk in Vulnerability Response for more information on editing multiple VITs.

Important: You can request an exception for:

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Vulnerability Response > Vulnerable Items > All and select the items that you want to request an exception for.

    The selected items must be in the Open, Under Investigation, or Awaiting Implementation state.

  2. Click Bulk Edit.

  3. On the form, fill in the fields.

    FieldDescription
    Record selectionRecords that you selected for a bulk edit.
    StateState of the vulnerable item. Select the Deferred state to request an exception for the selected items.
    ReasonSubstate for the State that you selected.
    Short descriptionName of the remediation task that you are creating.
    UntilEnding date that you specify for your exception request.
    Additional informationFurther details that you want to mention to inform the approver about the reasons for your request.
    Preferred solutionSolution that is targeted for remediating all the vulnerable items that you selected for a bulk edit.
    Assignment groupAssignment group for the VI. You can select a group manually or use Assignment Recommendations if that feature is enabled.
    Work notesNotes to be added.
  4. Click OK.

    A remediation task is created containing the VIs that you selected. This remediation task is submitted for approval.
