Engage with outside counsel

Engage with outside counsel to benefit from their expertise for resolving legal matters.

The following options are available for outside counsel engagement.

• Using the Legal Invention Disclosure workflow, you can enable inventors to disclose their inventions in a structured manner. For more information, see Legal Invention Disclosure.
• Using integration with Legal Tracker, you can engage with outside counsel, by automatically creating matters in Legal Tracker to track updates and spends on outside counsel engagement.

Sample workflow for outside counsel engagement using Legal Tracker

1. Legal matter fulfiller reviews a legal matter.
2. Legal matter fulfiller decides to engage with an outside counsel.
3. Legal matter fulfiller initiates an outside counsel engagement request.
4. Legal matter fulfiller enters Legal Tracker details or opts to create a task for the information to be filled later.
5. Legal matter fulfiller submits the outside counsel request for approval.
6. Practice area leads receive an approval request.
7. Practice area lead reviews and approves the outside counsel engagement request. If there are more than one practice area leads, approval from any one is required to mark the request approved.
   1. If the Legal Tracker details are already filled, an integration with Legal Tracker is automatically initiated.
   2. In cases where a task is created to fill the Legal Tracker details, the task fulfiller should initiate the integration manually after filling the details.
8. On successful integration, matter is created in Legal Tracker.
9. Matter details are synced to Legal Matter Management and can be viewed in external matter related list.

10. Outside counsel can access and update the matter in Legal Tracker.

    When outside counsel reopens or closes an external matter in the legal tracker, the matter status field is automatically updated with a comment in the activity stream in the Legal Counsel Center.

11. Request Outside Counsel engagement
    As a legal fulfiller, create an outside counsel engagement request for a matter.

12. Submit outside counsel engagement request for approval
    As a legal fulfiller, submit an outside counsel engagement request for approval.
13. Approve or reject outside counsel engagement request
    As a practice area lead, approve the outside counsel engagement request.
14. Resolve errors during matter creation
    In the Legal Tracker, a matter is created after outside counsel engagement requests have been approved and an integration initiated.
15. View external matter details
    As a legal fulfiller, view the external matter details fetched from in the legal matter.
16. Delete outside counsel engagement request
    As a legal fulfiller, you can delete outside counsel engagement request that is no longer required.
