Assign a legal matter to a legal group user

Assign a legal matter to yourself or to someone in the assignment group to start working on the matter.

Before you begin

Role required: sn_lg_matter.matter_manager

About this task

During the creation of a legal matter either directly or by promoting a legal request, it is assigned to an assignment group. The practice area lead or the group manager can assign the legal matter to themselves or to another member of the group.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to All > Legal Request > Legal Counsel Center.

  2. In the Legal Counsel Center tab, select the list icon

  1. In the Lists tab, under Legal Matters, click Unassigned.

  2. In the list of unassigned matters, click a matter number to open.

  3. In the Details tab, select your name or the name of another user in the Matter owner field to work on the matter.

  4. Update the Assignment Group Permission to change the permission level of the legal matter for the assigned user group.

    • No Access: Only the practice area lead, group manager, and matter owner (user in the Matter owner field) can access and work on the legal matter.
    • Read: All members from the assignment group can only view the legal matter.
    • Edit: All members from the assignment group can view and edit the legal matter. Note: The matter owner, practice area lead, or group manager can set the assignment group permissions on the legal matter.
  5. Click Save.

Result

The legal matter is assigned to the selected member of the user group. The state of the matter updates to Assigned.

What to do next

The assigned member can start working on the legal matter.
